FAQs
Can I drown if I fall asleep in there?
No. In fact some people do fall asleep and come out feeling relaxed and revitalized. The water is so buoyant that you stay afloat regardless of being awake or asleep and the water is only 10″ deep.
Can I float if I’m menstruating?
Yes, it’s encouraged! We ask that you use either a tampon, string coated in Petroleum Jelly, or a menstrual cup to avoid any leaks. We provide tampons at the spa! Floating helps reduce stress and muscle tension, in turn reduces pain caused by menstruation.
Can I float if I’m pregnant?
Yes, absolutely! Pregnant women love floating. If you are in your third trimester, or have any concerns, please consult with your physician before coming in. Later term pregnant women probably get more relief from the float Pod than anyone else. We have a float position specifically for second and third trimester women. Mid term pregnant women often find considerable relief from pain and stiffness, particularly while floating prone, with elbows on the floor of the tank (the water is only 10” deep) and chin cupped in hands. In this position the fetus is fully floating and the mother’s back and pelvic girdle are released from load. What a great idea! Just lying on a bed can be extremely uncomfortable for women in the later stages of pregnancy due to the massive gravitational strain placed on the body. The float Pod is a wonderful haven to which pregnant women can escape. We do however recommend that like most activities floating should be avoided in the first trimester.
Can more than one person float in a pod at the same time?
No, only one person per float Pod. We have three float Pods, so couples can come float simultaneously at our center.
Do I get ‘pruney’ or dehydrated during a float?
No, your skin doesn’t even prune up. You do absorb magnesium and sulfates from the epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) though. According to the National Academy of Sciences most Americans are deficient in magnesium. Raising your magnesium levels can improve your circulation, improve your body’s ability to use insulin, ease muscle pain, regulate electrolytes, and relieve stress. Plus when you get out, your skin will be all exfoliated and soft.
How is water hygiene maintained?
i-Float Sensations complies with stringent health and safety regulations. The water contains mostly salt (7.5 lbs of salt per gallon of water) and so the solution is sterile. Upon exiting the float Pod our state of the art purification system will automatically begin cleaning the water. The purification system will remove particles to 10 micron (1/10th of human hair). Circulating water is subjected to high frequency UV light as well as an Ozonator emitting O3 into the water. The entire Pod contents are circulated five to six times between floating sessions as well as running all night long during closed hours. We are currently experimenting with Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) as our main source of disinfectant. H2O2 in safe dosages has the beneficial effect of oxidizing the skin and has no harmful residue or gas upon breaking down. H2O2 is naturally produced when UV light strikes oxygen in the presence of moisture and is active in the environment during lightening storms. Hydrogen peroxide is naturally found in honey as well. Each Client will experience a pristine pod and room upon each visit.
I’m claustrophobic; will I be okay in the float pod?
This is a common concern, but you are in complete control and can keep the Pod door open, lights on and get out when you see fit. The pods are very large, 8½’ long and 5½’ feet wide. With the door open it’s 8’ tall. It does not feel enclosed whatsoever once inside. Once we have explained to our customers that they are in charge of the whole process, their worries subside, and usually they go on to float with the door closed and the lights off. Both of these functions are fully controllable from within the float Pod.
Do I need a bathing suit?
Nope! Your personal float room is totally private. But if you’re more comfortable wearing one, that’s okay of course.
